Activities to Promote Studies on Nerve Regeneration

The fourth spinal cord reproduction citizen seminar 2004.10.16 in Shibuya Ward,Tokyo

JSCF@held a seminar, and 120 people participated. Because enforcement of clinical trial of "a treatment of the spinal cord injury by transplant of a bone marrow derived cell" by Kyoto University and a study team of Kansai medical college became imminent, this was held so that the person concerned talked with a researcher.

At first Dr. Yoshihisa Suzuki (Kyoto University assistant professor) introduced a protocol (a clinical trial enforcement plan) of this clinical trial.

Dr. Masanori Fukushima (Kyoto University professor, an expert of clinical trial design.) stated when clinical trial carry out, everyday medical examination and treatment should have been state of the art, and a close protocol was necessary to carry out clinical trial.@

Dr.Chizuka Ide (Kyoto University professor) wanted to make the thing which seemed to be the center where clinical, there was a series to a treatment, care, rehabilitation not to mention a study.

Yomiuri medical care forum 2004.9.5 in Fuchu city, Tokyo

Yomiuri Shimbun sponsored this forum, and a JSCF supported it, and it was held. 350 people participated in the person concerned or a family.

Dr. Keiichi Shibazaki (director Murayama medical care center fielder) explained an outbreak factor and rehabilitation of the spinal cord injury, a serial flow to a comeback to normal life.

Dr. Masaya Nakamura (A lecturer at Keio University, An orthopedist of the medical department) talked about his study, the result of having carried out human neural stem cell transplant to a rat and a monkey of the spinal cord injury, there was effective in a meaningful level in exercise ability.(See: Iwanami A, et al. J Neurosci Res.2005 Apr 15;80(2):182-90.)

He told an effect of a treatment and information disclosure about safety were insufficient as for the treatment that China used OEG which went for.

Mr Ohama ( The chief director of JSCF )stated that because a risk was still big about the OEG treatment that China did, a Japanese patient should have waited for a treatment till we could confirm safety.

Fact-finding report publication about abnormal sharp pain with the SCI

The person concerned who suffered from abnormal sharp pain with the spinal cord injury played a key role and finished example investigation, count / analysis work of statistics investigation and published an investigation report in September, 2004. We dispatched a questionnaire to 6083 spinal cord injury patients and got 1659 answers. As a result, about 66% felt a pain among respondents, and among them about 40% understood that they suffered from a severe pain.
